Why are your flowers shipped in bud form?
Thought it might seem surprising at first, one bouquet is usually enough to persuade anyone that buds are the way to go. Not only do you get the pleasure of watching your flowers open, the bud protects the delicate bloom while the flowers are in transit, ensuring that your flowers arrive unmarred. They also arrive with much more life ahead of them; flowers delivered in bud form can last up to two weeks, depending on the variety. Some flowers, such as Roses and Gerbera Daisies, are best shipped in early bloom. Either way, you can be sure we have cut the flowers at just the right moment to ensure long vase life and beautiful blossoms.
Do you offer organic flowers?
We don't currently offer any flowers that are certified Organic. However, an ever-increasing number of our growers are certified by Veriflora, a company that works within the flower industry to maintain ecologically sustainable and socially responsible growing practices. This certification indicates that these growers are compliant with standards that address a wide array of issues, ranging from reduced pesticide use to fair worker wages, and represents a meaningful commitment to safe, responsible farming.
How do you find growers?
Luckily, Flowerbud.com was founded by a farmer, so we know quite a few people in the business. Many of our growers are former colleagues of Mark's, and we've found others through a combination of extensive research and personal recommendations.
Where are your flowers grown?
Most of our flowers are grown in California, in various farms along the coast. Peonies, Daffodils, and a few other seasonal flowers are grown here in Oregon, and we do offer a few imported flowers, which come from a variety of exotic locales.
What are the names of your growers?
While we can assure you that we work with some of the best growers in the country, we can't give out any specific names. We've signed confidentiality agreements with all of our growers, in order to protect their privacy.
Why are your flowers so expensive?
A question we've saved for last not because it's the best, but because its answer is longest. We get this question in a variety of forms, sometimes in sweet, sweet emails from longtime customers who bemoan the fact that they can't afford our flowers anymore, and sometimes in nasty ones from people who haven't ever ordered and just want to be mean. The answer is deceptively simple, but requires a bit of explanation. Our flowers seem expensive at first, but they're worth every penny—when you order from Flowerbud, you get a lot of fresh, beautiful flowers, delivered straight to your door. Our bouquets are larger than those offered by most online flower companies (remember to check the stem count!), our flowers are always of the highest quality, and they're shipped direct from our grower, so their freshness is unparalleled. Also, we don't tack on any shipping charges at the last minute, a trick that can add as much as $15 to other flower sellers' prices. In short, you get what you pay for, and I think you'll find that our flowers are a pretty good deal.
