Potted Plants at Weddings

Welcome to Flowerbud's Monthly Wedding Newsletter

Excited about doing your own flowers, but also a bit nervous about arranging them? While single-variety arrangements can be as easy as pie, there is something even easier, and no, it's not just calling a florist. Try using potted plants at your wedding! While you're obviously not going to carry a potted plant, there are plenty of places you can substitute them for flower arrangements, both making your life easier and keeping your wedding fresh and gorgeous.

You can use a potted plant almost anywhere you would use a vase arrangement, and they are especially well-suited for use as table centerpieces during your reception. If you have small, intimate tables, try placing a single, elegant potted Orchid on each table; if your tables are larger, try clustering a few different varieties of potted flowers together, perhaps on decorative stands of varying heights.

If you're feeling generous (or just don't want your honeymoon to be overrun with orchids), consider giving away the plants after the reception. You might want to leave a card on the table, inviting one person to take the plant home, or you could give them to members of the wedding party. They'll serve as beautiful and long-lasting reminders of your special day, and could even re-bloom each year, right around the time of your anniversary!

Potted plants can also be used during the ceremony itself; try placing a few on the altar, lining the aisles, or, if it's an outdoor wedding, near the space where the ceremony itself will be held, perhaps at the base of an arch or small podium. As you would with any arrangement, try to ensure that these flowers look good with your bouquet; this can be as simple as matching the colors, or you could try to ensure that they're the same flowers. For example, try using both potted and cut Cymbidium Orchids.

I hope this is helpful, and sparks a few ideas for some of you. Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions, about this newsletter or just about wedding flowers in general. You might also want to browse our Wedding Newsletter Archive, which is an amazing resource. If that doesn't help, just give me a call. I'm here all day Monday — Friday, and I'm always happy to hear from brides or grooms-to-be!

Thanks for reading, and have a great September!

Best Wishes,
