Freesia

Freesia reside in the same family as other well-known bulb crops like Iris and Gladiolus. A native of South Africa, it wasn't until the end of the 19th century that several European countries began initial breeding of the genus. The flower was actually named around 1830 after the German medical doctor Freese, its name given by a fellow student and avid plant collector in South Africa.

Holland is currently the world's largest grower of Freesia, with over 280 hectares under cultivation. However, our insistence upon freshness and the delicate nature of Freesia require we use equally talented growers here in the United States.
