Gerbera Daisies

Native varieties of Gerbera Daisies come to us from latitudes where the summers are damp and the winters dry. A native of South Africa, the flower was named after the German doctor, Traugott Gerber, by a botanist friend around 1737.

Gerbera Daisies are highly sensitive to fluoride and many other naturally occurring fungi. Therefore, commercial production was slow to develop. Only in the last few decades has the proliferation of Gerbera Daisies taken place. The flower is extremely popular in Europe, particularly with Germans, and has just recently found popularity in the U.S.
