In 1630s Netherlands, there was a craze over Tulips that, according to some accounts, drove the price of a single bulb to well over ten times the annual income of a skilled craftsman. The nickname given to the most expensive variety during Tulip Mania was “The Viceroy.” Considering the fortunes that were made and the policies that were dictated, this prestigious moniker is not far off the mark.
