Lily Flower Care

Flowerbud's signature bloom, Lilies are always a favorite around the office. They're beauties, of course, but they're also extremely long-lasting and quite hardy. Though they're generally easy to care for, there are a few things you'll want to keep in mind when arranging these elegant flowers. Our standard care instructions still apply, these are just additional things you'll need to consider.

They're slow to open.

Though most of our flowers will start to open within 2-3 days of arrival at your home, Lilies take a bit longer. They'll generally start to open after about 3-5 days, although it can take as long as a week. Keep this in mind when you're ordering flowers for a party or event; you'll want them to arrive extra early!

Their blooms are large.

We ship only premium grade Lilies, with 3-5 large buds per stems. As those buds unfurl, they turn into flowers that are not only large, but also heavy. In some cases, it may be necessary to clip a few extra inches off each stem, so that the vase can help support these weighty blooms as they open fully.

Their pollen can stain.

While the dark pollen can look beautiful, especially against pure white flowers, you want to avoid brushing against it, as it will stain. You may want to remove the pollen entirely, by gently pulling each pollen anther off the stamen with a fork or similar tool. To remove any pollen that does get on your skin or clothing, simply lift it off with adhesive tape. Do not touch the pollen; this will set the stain! Should a slight stain result, simply lay the garment out in full sun, and the stain will fade to nothing.
